lf you love mysteries, then you'll love meeting my mystery author friends! This month I'm excited to introduce you to Kara Lacey, yet another awesome Level Bestie with me and author of CAUGHT ON CAMERA, the first in the Camera Club Mystery Series.
About The Camera Club Mysteries:
The novels in the Camera Club Mystery Series are traditional whodunnit cozy mysteries about family, friendship, what it means to find your place in the world—and solving murder.
Set in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont, each novel centers on the protagonist, Bobbie Brooks, a middle-aged photographer who is learning to move forward after the unexpected death of her husband. As each crime unfolds, Bobbie and her Stonebridge Keep it Snappy Shutter Club sidekicks find themselves shifting their lenses from photographer to amateur sleuth. There’s a murderer lurking in their otherwise peaceful village!

About Kara:
Kara Lacey is the author of the Camera Club Mystery Series, traditional whodunnit mysteries with a warm, cozy vibe. Kara is a photography enthusiast who enjoys hiking, skiing, watching the sun rise, and curling up with a good book. She lives in a tiny village nestled in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont—the inspiration for her mystery series. When she’s not at her laptop creating havoc for her characters, you’ll find her rambling through the forests of Vermont with her husband and spirited Labrador retriever, camera in hand. Kara is a member of Sisters in Crime (SinC), Sisters in Crime New England, and Mystery Writers of America. She is also Co-Member at Large for Vermont SinC NE writers.
Tell us the name of your main characters. If you had to describe them in only three words, what would they be?
Bobbie Brooks (main character) - Caring, Creative, Curious
Rose Lavoie (friend and owner of the Rosebud Cafe) - Enthusiastic, Loyal, adventurous
Alicia Crowley (Bobbie's sister) - Intelligent, pragmatic, supportive
Is there something your protagonist can't live without? What and why?
Other than her family and friends, her camera. It's not only her livelihood, but also her passion.
Who would play your character in the tv/movie version of your book?
Julia Roberts. She's a little old to be Bobbie, but I think she could play younger. She's kind, funny, and able to laugh at herself.
Does your sleuth have a pet? If so, what's their name and animal type? If not, what kind of pet would they love to have?
Yes. Darcy is a 90-pound yellow Labrador retriever who "belonged" to her husband before he died. He and Bobbie are navigating their loneliness together.
If your sleuth was giving a tour of your town/setting, where would they take the reader to first? Why did they choose that spot?
So many fun places! She'd probably stop first at The Rosebud Cafe, which is located next door to where she lives, and where her best friend Rose serves delicious, locally roasted coffee and tasty baked goods.
Any other fun things we should know?
Along with a twisty murder for the reader to puzzle, there are a lot of family and friend dynamics happening, along with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humor. Towards the end of the first book, a potential love interest makes an appearance, which leads to a slow burn romance that will carry through the series.
Now, let's find out a little about you! Who or what first inspired you to write mysteries?
My mom. She was an avid mystery reader - cozies in particular. When my husband and I bought our second (now permanent) home in Vermont, the setting and characters started forming in my mind. As a photography enthusiast, I had my camera with my always. Once while visiting my village's country market, a man stopped me to talk about places in the area to photograph. As he was leaving, he said to me, "You should start a camera club." It seemed like a great idea to me, but I didn't have the time. But I held the idea close, forming my club on the pages of my series.
Where do you do most of your writing? Do you have any rituals or must-haves?
I have an office set up in my home, but prefer writing at my kitchen table where I can look outside. No rituals - I'll write wherever and whenever the inspiration strikes, using the notes app on my phone if need be.
Rapid fire questions!
Tea, coffee, or something else? Coffee in the morning, herbal tea in the afternoon.
Cats, dogs, or another animal? Both cats and dogs!
Dream vacation spot? Anywhere quiet. My dream vacation is the Cotswolds or Shetland.
Favorite book? (besides your own, of course!) Way too many...
Favorite time to write: morning, afternoon, nighttime? Morning mostly, but sometimes afternoon sprints
A random fact about you that might surprise readers? I wish I could think of something - lol!illegally!
